Kiehl’s arrives in Debenhams Cork

Kiehl’s has always been a brand that has intrigued me but until recently I didn’t actually know all that much about it simply because we never had a Kiehl’s counter in Cork until one opened in Debenhams Patrick Street earlier this year.

I decided that in order to get the proper low down on the brand I would contact the counter directly and see if somebody would be willing to walk me through the brand and what their products can offer. Enter Barbara the Counter Manager of Kiehl’s in Debenhams, Patrick Street. Honestly a nicer girl you couldn’t meet. She very kindly sat down with me and explained the ethos of Kiehl’s and even did a skin consultation on me to see what Kiehl’s products would suit me best.

My skin test re-affirmed my combination skin status

She was very honest at all times and it really just made me fall in love with the brand, they don’t ever promise to be a miracle in a jar, their products will enhance your skin to help make it be the best that it can be. With a blend of natural ingredients and science innovation I feel that Kiehl’s as a brand is definitely the best of both worlds.

So a few weeks after my initial consultation I decided to make my very first Kiehl’s purchase. I chose the Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil , the most recent addition to the Kiehl’s family and a accompaniment for Kiehl’s most popular product, Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I have been using the cleansing oil now for about a month and I have to say I adore it.

I’ve gotten very much into the double cleansing phenomenon right now and this oil is always one part of this process. I know some might be put off by the idea of using an oil to cleanse their face, especially those on the oilier side, but it’s such a lightweight oil that changes to a milk as soon as you mix it with water so for me personally it was never an issue.

It’s non-comedogenic too so no worries about it clogging up pores and I have even found it agreeable using it around my eye area, which for me is unusual. On top of feeling like a wonderfully luxurious product on the skin it also smells divine, it’s like having a spa day in your own bathroom with the mixture of Squalane, Evening Primrose Oil and Lavender Essential Oil.

I have to say that this oil has happily lived up to every single expectation I had and I can truly say I can’t wait to buy my next Kiehl’s product which I’m almost sure will be the Midnight Recovery Concentrate as I can only imagine how amazing a combination these two will make.

So if you’re in the market for new skincare be sure to pop into the lovely Kiehl’s ladies in Debenhams Patrick Street and tell them I sent you!!

Update…. I bought the Midnight Recovery Concentrate yesterday, I knew I would!!

Benefit Galifornia

If I had wanted to this could have been the shortest blog post I’ve ever written because four words sum up my feelings on this product…..I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!
So yah there you go, see you later…on to the next post, but no seriously let me tell you why I love it so you can decide for yourself whether it’s something you might like to try.

On Thursday the 9th of March I bought a ticket for a Benefit Masterclass in Brown Thomas Cork. The Masterclass was with the wonderful Benefit Makeup artist Mike Standen and it was to help show us exactly how gorgeous and versatile Galifornia actually is.

After that I was hooked, Mike created such a stunning Summertime look, using Galifornia on both the eyes and the cheeks. Now I’m no stranger to the concept of using Benefit cheek products on my eyes and in case you don’t know this, Hoola Bronzer makes the most gorgeous transition colour ever so go and try it ASAP!! So unsurprisingly on the night I bought myself a Galifornia of my own.

Used Galifornia along with the Shaaanxo palette on my eyes

On top of being the most gorgeous coral pink shade it has a gold iridescent overlay which adds the tiniest amount of highlight to the product, not so much that you look like a disco ball but a gentle amount that makes your skin look healthy and fresh. This blusher also smells absolutely incredible, I know that that might sound funny but from the moment you open the box it smells like sunshine, it’s so uplifting.

Galifornia is the most beautiful shade of blusher

At the risk of sounding ridiculously cheesy here, this product just makes me happy!! It is so much fun, it’s a stunning colour, it smells beautiful, the packaging is to die for, I think it’s my most favourite Benefit boxed blusher release since Dandelion.

On the left Galifornia swatched no flash, on the right Galifornia swatched with flash

Priced at €34 it’s an excellent investment in my opinion, it’s a very versatile product and I know from having Benefit boxed blushers over the years they last for yonks…happy days!!

Will you be purchasing Galifornia? Do you have any other favourite Benefit blushers?

Timeless Truth Bee Venom &Royal Jelly Miracle Mask

A few weeks ago I saw a company that I follow on social media, Beauty Belle were looking for bloggers over the age of 35 who were concerned about aging to review a course of one of their anti aging sheet masks. I contacted them and they thought that I would be a good fit so they sent me out three of the Bio Cellulose Bee Venom & Royal Jelly Miracle Masks to try. I was to use one a week for three weeks and report back after the course had finished.

The details of the company I worked with Beauty Belle

If I’m 100% honest I was a little bit nervous trying these masks out at first as they aren’t suitable for anybody who is allergic to bee stings and even though I was sure I was stung by a bee as a child I kept fretting in case I was wrong (mind you it didn’t stop me going ahead!!)
Apparently Bee Venom is now hailed as “Nature’s alternative to Botox” which I didn’t know and coupled with Royal Jelly they help to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which help the skin to become plumper and less saggy.

Now I have used sheet masks in the past but when I opened this one for the first time I immediately noticed a few differences.  Firstly this one was a lot wetter than any other sheet mask I had ever used before and secondly it was protected with gauze on both sides which threw me a little at first trying to figure out what way to actually put it on!! The second I applied it to my face though any niggling worries that I had about it being harsh went straight out the window. In fact it turned out to be quite the opposite, my skin felt instantly cooled and soothed. I found the mask itself a lot easier to apply to the skin than others I’ve tried and most importantly once you applied it it stayed adhered to the face, there was no fiddling around with it.

The mask in action

After the 20 minutes were up I removed the mask and rubbed the excess product into my face and neck area and went to have a look in the mirror. I was so pleasantly surprised that I could actually see a visible difference. My skin looked really refreshed and less red than it did, in fact I think my after picture looks like I’ve had a full nights peaceful sleep instead of 20 minutes with a face mask on. I was genuinely impressed. I had used the mask “live” on my Snapchat that day and showed the viewers step by step what I had been doing and I got several messages afterwards from followers saying how much they thought it had improved the overall look of my skin.

The before and after

After using it twice more since I think I’ve come to the conclusion that this is a really ideal mask to use if you have an event or a special occasion coming up. It really lifts and brightens the skin, I would even go so far as to say that you should do it the morning of an event (once you had already tried it and had no adverse effects) because your skin will be glowing and radiant and will be a perfect base for any make up that you put on it.
All in all I’ve had a really positive experience with this mask and I would definitely recommend it to anybody who is concerned about dullness or slackness in their skin or if your skin is tired looking and in need of a pick me up. You can purchase them singly or in a box of 5 and are available on the Beauty Belle website here.

Have you tried sheet masks before? What are your thoughts?

These products were sent to me to try but all opinions are my own.

My top 5 budget buys for May

This month I’ve used a lot of new cheap and cheerful alternatives to my usual brands just to mix things up a bit and here are 5 of the best that I’ve tried!!!

1. Seventeen Wow Skin Concealer

I’m so impressed with this product honestly, it’s a really excellent product with an equally impressive price tag. It’s an under eye liquid concealer that comes in a handy pen style a la Touche Eclat. It comes in two colours, Fair and Medium, I used Fair which matched my skin tone perfectly. It blends beautifully and I found it really luminous and lightweight. There were no issues with it sitting in my “crows feet” even after being on for a number of hours. To be fair I wasn’t expecting too much from it considering the price but I’ve since replaced the concealer I normally use (Naked Skin from Urban Decay ) for my daytime makeup every day since I’ve discovered this one, high praise indeed trust me!!!! My opinion is it’s such an impressive product that I would comfortably use this as an every day concealer but probably stick to my more high end product for a night out or on a day where I needed to be guaranteed of it staying put.

Currently on sale in Boots for €6.99 and on 3 for 2 on selected 17 products too, absolutely worth a try!!!

2. PS Felt Eye Liner

Well I’ve raved about this on my Facebook page from the very first time I’ve tried it and I haven’t changed my mind since. It is absolutely awesome and is so so easy to use, in fact I would go so far as to say that it’s possibly the best product I’ve used yet to perfect a thin line and flick when doing winged liner. It is an absolute bargain but difficult to get your hands on because it’s swooped up as quick as it lands in stores and now having used it I understand why. This has also replaced my favourite liquid liner (Rimmel Exaggerate liquid liner) ever since the first time I’ve used it!! If I was to nit pick the only negative I can see about this product is that it is difficult to remove which could also be construed as a positive as you know it’s going to last but yah you do need a little bit of extra welly when you’re removing it to make sure it’s all gone.

On sale in Penneys  (if you can get your hands on it) for €2.00

3. Wet n Wild Coverall foundation

This is one of two products that I’ve used for longer than a month but I wanted to include them both because they’re both fantastic products and they’re both absolute bargains that deserve a mention!! I love this foundation so much,  I chanced my arm one day when I saw it in Penneys on the WetnWild stand and I needed a new foundation and boy am I glad I did!! Billed as a medium to full coverage foundation which I totally agree with, medium to begin with but absolutely buildable and I’m picky about coverage so if I say it covers, it covers but without being cakey and mask-like!! My skin is dry combination these days and I definitely think this foundation is more so for a drier skin as it does have a “satin finish” which I’m not sure a person with oilier skin would appreciate to be honest. I find it to be long lasting and feels lightweight on the skin, the only thing it doesn’t have is an SPF but to be fair considering the price of it that would be a lot to expect. Such fantastic value for money and I would highly recommend picking this up if you see it because I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you do.

I bought mine from the WetnWild stand in Penneys for €4.69

4. Catrice Glamourdoll Macara Ultra Back & Curl

At the end of last year I found out that the mascara I had used every day for the previous six years was going to be discontinued at the end of that December, cue me being absolutely disgusted and a little bit frantic as to what I was going to use now because I had loved that one so so much (It was Revlon’s Grow Luscious Mascara by the way for anyone who’s interested!!). I thought it would take me ages to find something I liked as much and began looking around to see what my options were. I’m not even joking when I say that the very first mascara I tried as a replacement was this Glamourdoll mascara from Catrice. I was stalking the make up stands in Penneys as per usual when I saw it, I was already a big fan of their liquid lipsticks so that’s what drew me to the stand to begin with but when I saw the brush on this mascara I knew I had to give it a go. I’m a huge fan of a curved brush as I love volume and curl because my eyelashes are already a decent length so lengthening isn’t something I’m all that interested in. Also the fact that it’s an extra black mascara was also a big thumbs up as I love my lashes to be as dark as possible. Just look at the curl on that wand…absolutely dreamy!! Long lasting and durable this mascara absolutely ticks all of the boxes for me, an absolute gem.

I bought mine in Penneys for €4.99

5. Collection Work the Colour Eyeshadow Pencil

Last but by no means least is this fab eyeshadow pencil that I picked up in Boots a few weeks ago in the shade Vanilla Sky. When I saw these pencils on the stand there were just two colours in stock that day, Vanilla Sky which I bought and a beautiful dusky pink colour called Vintage Blush but I’ve since found out that they come in six different colours in total. I really went back and forth between the Vanilla and the Blush colours as they were both so beautiful but Vanilla won out as I specifically wanted it for highlighting under the brow bone. Now I do love the gorgeous shimmery finish of this pencil but I don’t know if I’d use it all over the eye if I’m honest but it is absolutely stunning as a highlighter applied directly with your finger. I’d also give it a go on the cheeks as a highlighter or in the tear duct to brighten up the eye too. The reason I wouldn’t use it all over the eye is it would almost certainly crease on me but then again at 36 I’d love if you could show me a cream eyeshadow that wouldn’t!! Great value for money and a really handy one to keep in your makeup bag to add highlight to pretty much any eye look you can think of!!

I bought mine in Boots for €4.49
