My top Makeup Revolution/TAM Beauty products from Mattetometallic.com

OK so unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year you’ll have heard of the brand Makeup Revolution. Makeup Revolution is part of the TAM Beauty line owned by Australian “Mr Make-up” Adam Minto, the range also includes the I πŸ’œ Makeup range, Freedom Makeup, LL Makeup Obsession amongst others.

At the start of this year it was really difficult to get your hands on these products anywhere in Ireland other than from the Makeup Revolution app but slowly throughout the year Revolution and I πŸ’œMakeup stands began to spring up in selected pharmacies throughout the country. Although this is brilliant it doesn’t solve the problems for those who don’t have access to a stand nearby but now Matte to Metallic have a solution for you!!

Jen & Ciara owners of the Matte to Metallic Studio in Glasnevin both Qualified Makeup Artists that also run their own Makeup Academy have branched out and have introduced their own online store here. The girls stock an extensive range of Makeup Revolution, Freedom Makeup and I πŸ’œ Makeup products in their store with free delivery on all orders over €40.

I recently attended the official Irish launch of Makeup Revolution in Ireland and finally got to meet these amazing ladies in the flesh. I find them both so inspirational, they’ve achieved so much so quickly and the fact that you can now buy these products online from a store that’s 100% Irish owned and run makes me incredibly happy!!

So in celebration of these wonderful ladies and this fantastic brand I wanted to show you my top picks from their website.

I’ve picked a variety of products starting from €10 right up to €100 with lots in between…. Have you seen one of your favourite products in amongst my picks?

1. Freedom Pro Artist Pad-Studio To Go €22.50

No that’s not a mistake, that actually does say €22.50!!! Can you imagine? For your money you get 32 beautiful eyeshadows in a mixture of matte and shimmer finishes, a blusher, a bronzer and a highlighter all packaged together in this perfect palette ideal for on the go.

2. Makeup Revolution- The Palette Edit €35.00

So this is my absolute favourite I think, such INCREDIBLE value for money, for €35.00 you get three stunning eyeshadow palettes, a blush palette and a bronze palette. What a truly gorgeous gift for any makeup lover.

3. Revolution Handbag Hacks- Brow Kit €10.00

What a really fantastic stocking present or even a Kris Kindle present for a friend or colleague. For €10 you get a mesh makeup bag,  a mini trio brow kit and an angled brush. Bargain!!

4. Revolution Ultra Strobe Balm €12.00

This was the very first product I ever used from Makeup Revolution and I cannot recommend this highly enough. Basically if you want your skin to look more glowy and radiant then this is the product for you. It can be applied over your moisturiser and under your foundation to give your skin a dewy finish or added on top of your foundation on the cheekbones as a highlight. Either way it’s beautiful and it smells absolutely dreamy… A must have IMO!!!

5. Revolution Highlight & Radiance Palettes €10.99

These two do exactly what they say on the tin. Two separate palettes each contain either three Highlighting Powders or three Radiant Lights Highlighters. I have the Radiance set and it is so beautiful, extremely pigmented and perfect for a fairer complexion like mine.

6. Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighters €3.99 each

If the trio isn’t your thing you also have the option of buying individual highlighters. These Vivid Baked Highlighters are absolutely stunning and are a complete steal for the price. These come in Peach Lights, Golden Lights and Pink Lights.

7. Freedom Lipstick Collections €7.50

So anybody who frequently reads my blog or follows me on social media knows how OBSESSED I am with lipstick, it is honestly my one big vice so imagine how excited I was to come across these!! A set of 5 Freedom lipsticks for only €7.50, these sets come in six different varieties and lets just say Santa may have gotten an order to deliver some of them here for me on Christmas Eve!!!

8. I Heart Makeup Death by Chocolate palette €12.00This is just one option from the I Heart Makeup Chocolate Palettes collection, this is the one I have myself, it’s called Death by Chocolate. I cannot say enough about this palette, I’ve used it pretty much every single day since I bought it its so versatile. Really pigmented with a mixture of both shimmer and matte shades included. I’m 100% going to buy more palettes from this range as I think they’re incredible value for money!!

9. Revolution 12 days of Christmas Storage Set €100.00

OK so obviously this is quite a pricey item BUT if you were to buy this for any makeup lover you’d definitely score major brownie points with them!!

Included in the box is;

An eye primer,  Aqua Priming Base, Ultra Strobe Cream, Lip Gloss Nude Edit Gift Set, Pro Go Brush Set,  Pro Fix Fixing Spray,  Blush Palette, Pro HD Strobe Palette, Pro HD Brow Palette, Matte Forecast 2017, New New-trals 2017, New Night Shimmers palette.

Yah I know….. Actual Christmas present goals right there!!!!

10. Lip Ultra Nude 2017 €10.00

Ok I’m going to end on a bargain…. I have these,  you need them, three absolutely gorgeous Nude lipglosses in three different finishes, One Intense, One Cream and One Shine. They also come in a Vamp collection but these are absolutely DIVINE. Ideal stocking filler or something to pop into the basket for yourself when you’re doing the rest of your shopping.

Well those are my top picks from the website but trust me these are just the tip of the iceberg. You definitely need to head on over to Matte to Metallic and have a nose and support this amazing Irish Christmas.

Makeup Revolution Blush Goddess Blush Palette

So I spent most of October really, really sick, bad times but luckily for me my local Phelans pharmacy in Glanmire had just gotten a brand spanking new Makeup Revolution stand so it really helped to ease the pain!
On one of my many trips to the pharmacy that month I picked up this stunning Blush Goddess Blush Palette. Having never tried any of the Makeup Revolution blush palettes before I chose this one based on swatching the highlighters in it and nearly being blinded by the glow. The palette itself contains four powder blushers ranging from a pale peach to a deep reddish shade and four highlighters.

Two of the highlighters are semi pearlised so give a very subtle lift and glow to the skin but the other two are full on turn off the lights and I’ll glow highlighters (I really, really love these). I love this palette, in fact I cannot recommend this palette more highly and what incredible value for money!! It cost me €7.79, yup I’m not joking €7.79!!!

The blushers themselves are highly pigmented, they are so soft and easy to blend and are the type of shades that would suit most skin tones. The more matte highlighters are beautiful and a great alternative to a full on glow just in case that isn’t your thing!!

The four blusher colours

For me though it’s the two full on highlighters that steal the show here. I absolutely love highlighters and the brighter the better so these do not disappoint. One is a gorgeous frosted baby pink shade and the other is probably one of the brightest golds I’ve ever seen,  this is the one I’ve worn the most since buying the palette and I’m in love!!

The four highlighting shades

As I’ve said already this is my first Makeup Revolution blush palette but it definitely won’t be my last. Makeup Revolution is fast becoming one of the most popular reasonably priced brands in the country and with every new product I try I can really see why.

Some of the looks I created using the palette

I bought my palette in Phelans Pharmacy Glanmire but Makeup Revolution can be found in selected pharmacies throughout the country or online at Matte to Metallic

Have you tried any other Makeup Revolution products , do you have any recommendations on what to try next?

Wet n Wild Autumn ’16

So a few weeks ago I was sent a package from The Publicity Loft full of WetnWild goodies, to say I was ecstatic would be an understatement, WetnWild is one of my favourite makeup brands already so having the opportunity to try some of their newer products excited me greatly!!

Megaglo Contouring Palette €5.95

I’m starting with this one because out of everything that came in the envelope this was the one that excited me the most. I had seen quite a few other bloggers and MUA’s use this including my personal favourite Diane Everett MUA who I have quite a (healthy!!) obsession with!! So firstly it’s a powder product split in two, one side for highlighting the other for contouring . The shade that was sent to me was Dulce de Leche and it was absolutely perfect for my skin tone. This product was everything I hoped it would be, I love it especially the contouring shade it’s so blendable. I’ve used it both on its own and over the Dual-Ended Contour Stick (more about that in a minute) and I loved it both ways. Obviously using it over the cream contouring product intensifies the colour and its perfect if you want a more sculpted look. The only negative I found is the highlighting product didn’t suit me under my eyes but few powder based products do at my age to be honest. It was beautiful on my forehead area and I felt it did a great job brightening me up there. A big thumbs up for this product and I’d have no problem recommending this to anybody.

Photofocus Eyeshadow Primer €5.95

So I’ll start off by saying that I am a big, big fan of eyeshadow primers. As a late 30 something that’s partial to a smokey eye they are my Holy Grail. I’ve tried plenty of them in my time my favourite being the original Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion but at €21 for 10mls it’s not always affordable. My personal opinion is to always have a great back up “dupe” on hand anyway so you don’t have to use your “investment” piece everyday. Enter the Photofocus Eyeshadow Primer. Yah the first time I used this product I thought I was going to hate it, even now I’m not quite sure what I did differently on that first day because on day one it felt like I had just put cement on my eyelids. They felt tight and the primer felt like it was cracking but it was all fine as soon as I put eyeshadow on it. In fact the one big positive I took from that day was how it made the pigment in my shadow pop so that encouraged me to keep going with it. I’m glad I did, I haven’t had the experience since so maybe it was just the first bit coming out of tube that caused it, I’m not sure?! Now I’m really impressed with it, I feel it really makes a difference to the pigment of the shadows you apply and my eye makeup has lasted every bit as long with it as it does with the Urban Decay product….happy days because it’s only a fraction of the price!! Another big thumbs up for this one.

Coverall Coverstick €2.99

At this point I’m going to put my hand up and say that when it comes to concealer I’m such a snob. I would never normally buy or even look at a concealer stick if I’m honest, they always remind me of pound shop makeup!! The one thing that did excite me about this one though was it was from the Coverall range and I have an absolute gra for the Coverall foundation. Coverage with this is excellent, I applied it with a concealer brush as opposed to straight from the tube though and it covered really well. There’s a lovely soft texture to it which I didn’t expect from a concealer in this form I’ve been pleasantly surprised with this one I must say. I was sent shade E802 Medium and even though it looked quite dark, it was perfect on.

Max Fanatic Cat Eye Mascara €5.95

I really don’t know where to start with this one if I’m honest. When I opened it I instantly took a dislike to the wand firstly because it’s plastic (shudder!!) and secondly because it’s a bizarre shape!! There’s a curve on one side which obviously is supposed to help curl the lashes and then the other side is like a comb, maybe to go through the lower lashes individually, I’m really not sure!! When I applied it I was delighted to find that it wasn’t uncomfortable on the eyes like every other plastic mascara wand I’ve ever used so that’s a massive plus and it’s really pigmented, another positive. Now onto the negatives, although the shape of the curved side of the brush does give you a great curl to your lashes they dry a bit “crispy” do you know what I mean? I felt my lashes looked a bit spidery and it flaked a bit as well after being on for a few hours. The other thing I didn’t like was the size of the brush, no matter what I tried I managed to get mascara under my eyes, it was a dose. I stand to be corrected if somebody wants to give me a crash course on how to apply the mascara “properly” but for now I definitely wouldn’t recommend this one I’m afraid.

Ultimate Brow Highlighter €4.50

This is a fab little product to keep in your make up bag on days where you need an eye lift!! A similar product to the Benefit High Brow products it’s a highlighter pencil that you apply under the brow line to shape and lift the brows. It has quite a metallic finish to it I found, perfect for a night out but if you’re looking for a more natural finish then just blend it out with a brush after application to soften out the appearance. A product like this really lifts the eye, making it appear bigger and look more awake and I think this one is a great quality version, well worth the money.

Dual Ended Contour Stick €5.99

I was so excited to see this in the envelope too, I’ve never used anything like it before and was dying to give it a go. There are two sides, hence the name, one which looks almost like a concealer but goes on a lot paler and has a glow to it on the skin and the other darker contouring side. There are instructions on the box to help you with correct application which is great for somebody who isn’t confident with cream contouring. I’ve used this product quite a few times now and I’m quite impressed with it but I would say that when using it the first few times less is more with the contour side. I was sent the shade E7511 Light/Medium but even at that the contour colour is quite dark. Start small and work your way up would be my advice. Just to let you know as well that I blended the highlight side with a beauty blender and I buffed out the contour side using a small oval brush. I found that the highlight worked beautifully under my eyes, I looked really refreshed and glowy and I loved the colour of the contour once I got the hang of how much I needed to use!! I’ve used this product on it’s own and in conjunction with the Megaglo Contouring Palette and they compliment each other really well. Another fab product for your make up bag, a quick, easy and compact way to contour and highlight on the go!!

Wet n Wild products can be found nationwide in selected Penneys and Dunnes Stores. These items were sent to me to try but all of my opinions are my own.

These are just not for me!!Β

Botanics All Bright Radiance Balm

Any avid reader of beauty blogs will probably be a bit surprised to see this in the list but I was honestly sooo disappointed with it. I read glowing reports about this product before I bought it so I was super excited to try it considering it was so reasonable too but in my experience it just didn’t live up to the hype. I’m so disappointed and confused by my thoughts on it that I’m actually wondering if I’m somehow using it wrong but it made no  difference to my skin at all, no brightening effect, no subtle glow, nothing…It did nothing.

If you’re looking for a budget brightening primer have a look at the Seventeen Wow Skin 3 Way Highlighter I reviewed here in June’s Top Picks , I absolutely love this product and it does exactly what it promises to do.  Just goes to show you can’t always believe the hype!!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner

Earlier this month I decided to branch out from my regular Rimmel Exaggerate liquid liner that I’ve used for Lord knows how long and try something new and I got it in to my head that I wanted to use a felt tip liner because I haven’t had much experience with them. The first one I tried was the Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner, I was drawn to it firstly because it was made by Rimmel and I just love the Exaggerate liner and secondly I like the idea of the angled pen which is meant to help you achieve, effortless lining whether you want a thick or a thin line.

Disappointing doesn’t even cover it!!

My first issue is the depth of colour, the liner is supposed to be black, it just isn’t, at best it’s Charcoal Grey and when you’re applying it it goes on “gappy”. Secondly it’s supposed to be waterproof and it was melting off of my eyelids. It was all over my eyelid a few hours in to wearing it which is something I never experienced with the Exaggerate one. I wore it two days in a row and to be honest I was so underwhelmed by it on those two days that I didn’t try it a third. There are so many better liquid eyeliners out there. Give this one a big huge skip!!!!

VO5 Give Me Texture Instant Oomph Powder.

I’m going to start this review off by saying that I think this is hands down THE WORST product I have ever used and I mean that sincerely. I had the misfortune of using this product before a night out… Big, big mistake!! This product is supposed to give your hair volume and in my case all it did was leave my hair flat and sticky. I ended up having to tie my hair up instead the night I used it because it looked greasy and lifeless which is rather annoying considering I had just finished washing and styling it. What’s worse is that my experience with this product has really turned me off of using other volumising powders in case they have a similar effect. It really is one of the biggest faux pas I’ve ever made with a beauty product.. Avoid at all costs!!!!

June’s Top Picks

I just wanted to share with you some of my favourites from June, some that I’ve tried for the first time, others that I’ve rediscovered.

No.7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water

Now this is one I’ve rediscovered. After years of using it, I stopped, not for any particular reason but because I just wanted to try something different. You know yourself what it’s like when you get stuck in a product rut and a change is as good as a rest, or so they say. I love the idea of cleansing waters, in my opinion they’re as thorough as a cream cleanser but as convenient as a cleansing wipe, making it a very attractive option for anybody who tries to talk themselves out of cleaning off their make up every couple of nights!!

The description of this product I’ve always felt is a bit misleading though, it claims to be suitable for Normal/Oily skin which I have to say I don’t fully agree with. When I started using it first I would have been on the oilier side of combination but now I’m on the drier side of it and I love it every bit as much. Maybe it’s fabulous for oily skin too of course but all I’m saying is don’t rule it out if you aren’t oily because it’s a beautiful product. I love the tightening, tingling feeling it leaves on my skin after using it, it feels so refreshing. And I also love the convenience of the pump action top which can lock, making it convenient for travelling with. Excellent value for money at €13.00 but No.7 are such a great brand for offers, so keep your eye out for 3 for 2 or money off skincare vouchers.

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil

So at the end of June Benefit pulled off one of the biggest launches any cosmetic company has ever managed, upgrading and adding to their brow range. Lots of new products were introduced and lots of new shades were introduced to existing products and they all got a really funky makeover. Among the products introduced was the Goof Proof Brow Pencil, now like many others I got mine free in Elle magazine, what a great way to get us hooked!! Although the shade that came in the magazine was a little bit too light for me it still allowed me to see how great this product is and the ease at which you can apply it. It’s a perfect product if like me you have gaps in your brows, the shape of the pencil really helps with accurate application and the full size product comes with a built in spoolie brush so you comb through brows afterwards to soften them out. Having used this one I’m definitely going to buy the full size one in the correct colour for me and also check out some of their other brow products while I’m at it.

Nivea Double Effect Eye Make-up Remover

Now I’ve only begun to use this product very recently but I’ve no idea why it’s taken me so long to start using it to be honest. Before it I had always used Clinique’s “Take the Day Off” but it stopped agreeing with me hence why I started to look for an alternative. This is a fantastic product, it is every bit as good as the more expensive brands at only a fraction of the price. It’s a bi-phase formula so you must shake well before use but it effectively removes all traces of eye make up including waterproof mascara without excessive rubbing or tugging at the eye. The best tip I can give you when cleaning your eye make up off is to start at the outside of the eye and work your way in as going the other way drags at the eye and the more dragging you do the more chance there is of causing fine lines. Suitable for contact lens wearers and sensitive eyes too.

Benefit Erase Paste

This is a product I bought during my Pamper Day in The Kingdom on the Benefit counter in CH Chemists Tralee. I honestly had never heard of it before but I just love it, it was by far the product I was most impressed with on the day. It’s a concealer but personally I think it’s a bit more than that because not only does it help to conceal dark circles and blemishes it also leaves a beautiful brightening finish to the skin. Unlike other under eye concealers it’s not at all thick and cakey and there’s no creasing which is the Holy Grail when it comes to under eye concealing. I particularly like this for concealing the redness I have in my cheek area, I find it blends brilliantly and the coverage is buildable so you can even use it with a lighter weight foundation too without it looking obvious. It comes in three different shades Fair, Medium and Deep and the box contains a really helpful step by step lesson for easier application. Available on all Benefit counters priced at €27.50.

Seventeen Skin Wow Primer

When they say Wow, they’re not joking….Seventeen you are really winning me over lately with the fabulous new additions to your range, see details of their gorgeous new concealer here in My top 5 budget buys for May !! Anyway back to the highlighter, it’s absolutely gorgeous I can’t believe how much so considering the fact that it’s only €8.49!!! OK so you can use it several different ways, firstly you can mix a little bit of it with your own foundation to give your skin an overall glow. You can also use it over your moisturiser and under your foundation as your primer or you can dot some on your cheeks and use it as your highlighter. No matter what way you use it it’ll give you glow for days!!! It is absolutely dreamy.

Urban Decay Masterclass

Well last night I attended the Urban Decay Masterclass in Debenhams Patrick Street with the wonderful Danielle Roberts in attendance.  In case you don’t know who Danielle is, she’s the Regional Make up artist for Urban Decay and IMHO an absolute genius. Last night wasn’t my first time seeing her work in person as I had already attended a Masterclass she held in Mahon Point back at the start of April and from that moment on became an absolute #fangirl!!

image

The look last night focused on the launch of the Alice through the Looking Glass palette which launched in stores on Thursday the 5th of May. Now if you follow me on any of my social media platforms you’ll already know how obsessed I am with this palette and expect a blog post really, really soon dedicated to the palette alone.

What I loved about last night’s look was the wearability of the look she created even though she used, purple, bright green and pink glitter eyeliner!! Check out the final look below modelled by the lovely Carolyn. This is a palette that on first glances you might think “ya that’s not for me” due to the brightness of some of the colours but as Danielle quite rightly pointed out, if you take away the 4 or 5 bright colours you’re left with a very subtle, wearable every day palette. In fact this was the angle I wanted to take for my own dedicated blog post because I couldn’t get over how subtle it could be when I used it first. Don’t get me wrong I’m dying to try an over the top look like those used on the promotional posters but obviously I won’t be doing that on a day when I need to pop to Aldi for butter!!

image

Another super point that she made last night was if you were heading away for a weekend or a night away #alicethroughthelookingglass is your perfect one stop palette as you can use the shade “Lily” as a highlighter and “Paradox” as a gorgeous peachy tone blusher.

image

After the Masterclass was finished we were all invited downstairs to make our purchases and we were told that there was a special deluxe goody bag for the first 15 people who spent over €60….Challenge accepted!!! This turned out to be a beautiful box full of really well sized Urban Decay samples and miniatures. These are such a great way of trying products before you buy and some of them have a lot more than one use in them!! Along with that everyone got a Debenhams goodie bag that had a few other samples from different counters within the store as well as a green fluorescent bag from Taylor by Taylor Swift perfume. All in all a really good value night for the €20 a ticket price, seeing as this €20 could also be used against any item you purchased on the night.

My purchases last night were two planned ones which were the Eyeshadow Primer Potion and the All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray, both of which came in my goody bag at the last event and I was very impressed with both. My other purchase was a complete impulse buy to be honest, I bought the Afterglow Powder Highlight in “Fireball”. I already have this in “Sin” and it is seriously AWESOME and the Fireball is such a unique colour for a highlighter I honestly couldn’t resist it!! To be honest I’m glad I didn’t resist because the box of sample goodies absolutely made it worthwhile investing in it.

A truly enjoyable evening getting to see a true master at work. I love Urban Decay as a brand so much, they’re a little bit left of the middle while still being a very wearable brand. Roll on June for the launch of their 100 new lip colours #lipstickismyvice. I’m going to be stoney broke 🙈🙈🙈🙈
